Silver's Story by ~94644:icon94644:

Hundreds of years ago, there was a war among the world. A huge war… a terrific war. And in this time of war was born an mamillian-fox girl. They called her Meiku… why Meiku? Meiku was their word for silver… and indeed, the fox was silver. She was a beauty… yet an outcast. Her very blood, flowing silver, made her apart from the people she was born to…

She hated the war. She hated everything to do with it. Death, destruction… mess, carnage. It wasn’t her kind of game. She was a careful and kind hearted being inside. But one day, this would all change. Her hatred of war changed into a hatred for only one side. What could spark such a change, one would ask? A boy.

A war leader, to be exact. A suave and quick tongued fox man came to her city. He preyed on her outcasted situation… and she fell for it. But, he did not need to play games with her for long. She fell in love with him, and the feeling was mutual. They were lovers now. Partners in this war. Her immense magical powers controlled what he could not with his sword. They dominated this war, hand in hand. Everyone knew of Neito and Meiku, lovers forever.

But again, a big change happened in Meiku’s life. This time, however, she was not so fortunate. She dove before an attack that would have killed her lover. Thusly, ending her life in the desire to protect his. Some said her spirit lingered, stayed somewhere, still wanting to be loved by the great Neito. But he was crushed. No matter how many rumors, she was not with him anymore. And slowly, the kind side to this war hero died. He was a hardened machine for destruction. Unable to feel any emotion, so they say. Nobody really gets close to him, or, close enough to know.

But that was hundreds of years ago… what does that have to do with now?

Well, this is a story of a girl. A young one at that. She lay crying, sobbing, and threatening her own life silently to herself. She couldn’t take life in this world anymore. Maybe the afterlife held something, something more than this one had. If not, at least she didn’t have to live it anymore. That would be a relief.

She wasn’t able to finish her act. For, a gentle hand stopped her, and confiscated her blade. She peered into his sweet enticing blue eyes with wonder. What -did- this man want? Was he crazy? What business did he have with her?

Well, she never really did find out exactly why he did it, but he convinced her to travel with him. He was so sweet, so funny. And not to mention beautiful. Unlike the brown haired, brown eyed plain girl, he was stunningly different. Large angelic wings unfurled from his back, and a wolfish tail and pair of ears protruded from his body. His eyes, the first thing that attracted her, were a shade of amazing blue. They didn’t stay that way forever, though, for they changed green to teal to blue with his varying emotions.

It wasn't long after she met him that he introduced her to the others that were to accompany her on her journey. A fighter, strong and bold, promised to protect her at all costs. A quick agile rogue gave a promise of friendship and warmth. A quiet, intellegent mage gave her wisdom and firepower. Lastly, some time after meeting them, the prince joined their plight in keeping safe this odd young human girl.

It was a peaceful and happy life they led. The boy who saved her ever so quickly started to fall for this girl… and he showed it. Nothing could separate them. Nothing… until a fight. A BIG fight. The elegant man had to fight to protect his lover… and he started to fall, started to loose the battle. He would die, and she would die, if he couldn’t beat the ruffian swordsman! With a quick gasp, he cried “I love you!” Before… before something terrible happened.

He became what nowadays man could only describe as vicious. Destructive… and deadly. He seemed more wolf than human now. And he devoured every bit of the swordsman. He had let the demon inside him control how he acted. He had let his rage take over. He had let her down. And surely, he would kill her in this state. That little angry side of him couldn’t control what it killed. She stood the next target. But… somehow. He resisted, and in a bloody heap he fell to the ground.

Of course she rushed to his aid! She wasn’t sure how, but she managed to get him sitting upright, and able to speak again. Well, sorta speak. All he could mutter was “Sorry” over and over again. She told him she didn’t want his sorrys. Begged him to snap out of it… with no avail. He ended up fine when all was said and done.

That's when he knew. He knew that he must give... give this girl the amulet he was entrusted with so long ago. He would give her this... and his purpose with her would be fufilled. He was happy to know now what the purpose was. He was never told why he must protect her and that amulet, just that he should. Now it came to him that he should bestow it upon her. What would come of this, he had no way of predicting.

He pulled it from his bag one day soon after. He held it in his hands for a moment wishing her good fortune as he clutched it. Suddenly, however, a fox appeared. A small, pure white fox attempted in vain to climb into his lap. She was whiter than even the purely driven snow.

Again, he was unsure why, but he knew that this fox was important. He must give her the amulet and the fox now. Somehow, they were important. He knew it.

So, as could be expected, he placed the amulet around her neck, and the fox into her arms. She was told not to speak, and was held dearly by him for a moment. This sincere, silent moment was shattered by what happened next.

Something important was happening. That amulet, it was glowing now. She was glowing… and hearing a voice. Who… who was talking to her!? Everything turned into a mushy blur. All she remembered was waking up to these impossibly blue eyes, that tender smile.

Then he took her to the water’s edge, and showed her the reflection on the water she made. She nearly fainted! What had she become? It was like… she was half fox! Bushy tail, pointy ears, silver hair! Hell, she was not part fox, she was part silver fox! And it was freaky! Her eyes, once dull brown, were not mismatched teal and purple. Her skin seemed paler, and maybe… softer… ? then before! She was astonished, and knew not of what to do! She turned to her lover, who promptly explained the story of Meiku. The legend of the silverfox. She understood now. The love, the love that broke her man from his spell, and the love that made him protect her, it had enticed the love sick spirit to the body of this human! And now, she carried another soul within her.

The fox, which she remembered as being white, had also changed. It was now... just like her. Silver fur, mismatched eyes, white paws and tail tip. It was... it was her. Only... not her. It seemed as though this creature collected a very small part of the soul that is now within the girl. She, however, also inherited some beautiful gossamer blue wings in the process. Did Meiku have wings...?

Now, it came with some perks, yes… but it wasn’t perfect at all. The spirit of Meiku spoke to this new girl, now called Silver. She demanded things of Silver, in exchange for the powers Silver receives from Meiku’s presence. It was an odd arrangement, but it changed the very person Silver was. Her lover, there the whole time, accustomed to each new change as it happened.

This peace didn’t last forever, though. Silver’s lover… had to leave her. He told her there was something very important he must do. And he promised her that nothing could keep him from her for too long. Her other friends... the prince, the fighter, the rogue, and the mage all were summoned to go with him. She would be all alone, and never know why.

He would be back for her some day. He would come back and sweep her away. Take her, and make her life perfect.

Little did he know, she already felt perfect.

With a romantic evening behind them, and a kiss, he left. Never to be seen by Silver again. Her heart would permanently ache for love, just like the Meiku within her…

Author's Comments

Alright. I was informed that the people who actually read this wanted to hear more about Silver [link] and where he came from, who he is, and all that.

So! I have a not-very-detailed background written up for him that I figured I'd share here. Of course, eventually, it will all be typed out and detailed and spiffy. Right now, though, this is the best I have.

This is all the Hidden Crossroads [link] version of her, of course. This is all what took place before he started on the Crossroads as a played character. She was adapted from a story that I have been writing (on paper and in my head) for years. Of course, things had to be changed a bit here and there to fit the world of the Crossroads better.

Yes, this is the same Silver that was in that (apparently) famous 'yaoi' fic of mine. He was turned into a male (by a powerful magician) after falling for Ashe (the other star of said story). As a dyamic character like he is, he's changed a good deal from the beginning of the story to it's current juncture. :3
